50 years, 50 memories

. . . . .
I think you’ll like this book idea. I hear from lots of people who are looking for a meaningful anniversary book idea for their parents - and usually they only have a few months to pull it together.

That’s exactly what this next book was about.

First let me offer my tips for a situation like this. I think the most important thing is to pick a strong book concept that is easy for family members to contribute to. By nature these are group projects, so if you don’t have a clear concept it becomes more complicated than necessary. Second, if you have a really big family, assign just one or two people to take the lead.

The concept we chose for Don and Anita’s 50th anniversary book was 50 years, 50 memories. The kids came up with 50 memories of their parents, and we coupled that with a brief description and a few photos per memory.

Here is the book cover:

I love the endsheet design we came up with. These were name cards from Don and Anita’s high school yearbooks, and we scanned them with the tape marks and everything.

The book dedication - I think short and sweet is always best.

And here are a few examples of the memory pages - we decided to use a consistent layout throughout. I especially love the story in the first memory about how Don’s mom told him “the best man wins.”

And a short and sweet closing, of course!

    Kim–
I love love love the cover. I rarely see books with white covers. It’s stunning and will make it stand out among other books.
Also, I like that you chose to only print on one side of the page. That is new and different and I think it turned out fabulous.

I don’t leave a comment every time you post, but I do love looking at each post and all of the beautiful work you do! I love looking at OTHER peoples’ families, so I can’t imagine what the families themselves must feel looking at their own!

Good eye, Maggie - yes, this is the first time I’ve used just one side of the page. I wanted the book to still feel thick enough but it kept design time down and allowed some visual breathing room too.

Maria + Lucia - thanks so much for checking back in with me!! Heading to your blogs for an update now…
